Active Notation

What is Active Notation?

Unlike conventional, printed notation, Active Notation is not fixed. It can be manipulated in a number of ways, notably though open form and algorithmic approaches. Since 2005 Tonality Systems Press has been exploring the possibilities for Active Notation systems and is actively seeking out performers who wish to experiment in areas such as computer delivered and mediated scoring and networked performance. Please contact us if you would like to collaborate on a project with Active Notation.

What Active Notation works are available?

Currently Tonality Systems publishes scores and software for the following Active Notation works:

Fifteen Images (Le Jardin Pluvieux) for keyboard instrument (with optional tenor part) and Active Notation system

Self Portrait for networked ensemble

Continuum with Blues for electric guitar and Active Notation system

Please contact us if you would like access to the scores and software under the Tonality Systems Press License Agreement.
